S:t Eriks -
A modern craft beer dating back to 1859

The beer was brewed at Kungholmstorg in Stockholm back in 1859 and there is no doubt that the characteristic taste had its origins from the capital; the water was pumped up from Riddarfjärden to the brewery. The new beer had been inspired by the Bavarian brewery traditions and, although the beer achieved some success at the start, it was not until the 1870s that great success came when the Stockholm profile and brewmaster Calle P (Carl Magnus Peterson) made their mark on the brew.

Several varieties saw the light of day and in addition to Bavarian beers, English beers, Swedish beers, Sugar drinks, Weak drinks, Ice-cold drinks, Porters, “Skänköl” and “Spillöl” were launched. The popular drinks were also distributed to Oscar II's court and towards the end of the 1870s the brewery was named Royal Court supplier. Around the turn of the century, S: t Eriks was the biggest beer in Stockholm and the success was crowned with a stately expansion of the brewery where the brand's logo was to adorn the entire southern facade.

From the past to the present.

From the past to the present.

Like several other beer brands, S: t Eriks was affected by stricter sobriety legislation during the 1920s and later by increased competition and most consolidations during the second half of the century. But in 2010, S:t Eriks return came when at Galatea we stepped in as new owner with the vision of recreating the brand as a modern quality beer with the brewery traditions of 1859. Seven new beers were introduced, mainly inspired by American and British craft beer. The experts gave the beer the highest rating and during the journey we have also produced several notable speciality beers.

Today, S:t Eriks is available both in and outside Sweden and it is with pride that we continue to develop new exciting brews dating back to 1859. And we do it in one of Sweden's most modern breweries with 100% renewable energy, just outside Arlanda in Stockholm.
